Russia Claims Capture of Four Ukrainian Settlements

(MENAFN) Russian forces captured four settlements and executed widespread strikes targeting Ukrainian military infrastructure throughout the past week, Russia's Ministry of Defense announced Friday.

Troops seized the villages of Chugunovka and Glushkovka in the Kharkov region, Sidorovka in the Sumy region, and Zaliznichnoye in the Zaporizhzhia region during operations spanning February 7-13, the ministry disclosed in an official statement.

Military commanders also authorized one massive assault and six combined aerial operations against Ukrainian defense industry complexes, energy infrastructure, fuel depots, and transportation networks supporting military operations, according to the ministry.

Moscow justified the bombardment, stating the strikes were delivered "in response to Ukraine's terrorist attacks on civilian facilities on Russian territory."

The ministry reported that air defense batteries intercepted five Flamingo long-range cruise missiles, 28 guided aerial bombs, 39 rockets fired from the U.S.-made HIMARS multiple launch rocket system, four Neptune long-range missiles, and 1,243 fixed-wing drones.

Separately, Belgorod Governor Vyacheslav Gladkov confirmed Friday that two civilians died and three sustained injuries when a Ukrainian missile struck Belgorod.
