Russia Says It Seized Control of Two Strategic Settlements in Ukraine

(MENAFN) Russian forces have seized control of two strategic settlements—Toretsk in the Donetsk region and Petrovka in the Zaporizhzhia region—according to an announcement from the Russian Defense Ministry on Saturday.

The Russian military launched widespread attacks targeting Ukrainian transport infrastructure, ammunition storage facilities, and temporary deployment sites housing Ukrainian armed forces alongside foreign mercenaries across 138 separate locations, the ministry declared in an official statement.

Russian air defense networks successfully intercepted and destroyed four guided aerial bombs, one American-manufactured HIMARS rocket system projectile, and 47 fixed-wing unmanned aerial vehicles during the previous 24-hour period, the ministry added in its operational update.

The territorial claims come amid ongoing intense fighting in eastern Ukraine, where Russian forces have maintained sustained offensive operations aimed at capturing additional ground in the contested Donbas region. Military analysts continue monitoring the situation as both sides report conflicting accounts of battlefield developments and territorial control in the war-torn areas.
