Russia Says Western Troops Deployment in Ukraine “Unacceptable”
Deputy Foreign Minister Alexander Grushko issued the stark warning during an interview with RIA Novosti, emphasizing Moscow's red lines remain unchanged. "We have stated that this is unacceptable, no NATO membership and no foreign forces," Grushko told RIA Novosti. "There is no difference whether a French corporal is wearing a cap with 'NATO' or 'EU' written on it. That does not change the situation. We have not deviated from our position."
The forceful remarks follow recent disclosures by U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio, who revealed that emerging security guarantee frameworks envision deploying European military units—primarily from France and Britain—to Ukraine, backed by Washington. Rubio declined to elaborate on what form American support would take.
The Russian Foreign Ministry has consistently signaled that any troop deployment from NATO member nations to Ukraine crosses a critical threshold for the Kremlin and risks triggering dangerous escalation.
Moscow has condemned recent statements from Britain and other European capitals regarding potential military deployments, characterizing such proposals as reckless provocations designed to prolong the conflict.
