Putin says soldiers are seen as warriors on holy mission from God

(MENAFN) President Vladimir Putin described Russian soldiers as carrying out a sacred mission under God’s guidance during remarks following a Christmas service on Wednesday. He met with veterans of the Ukraine conflict and their families at Saint George the Victorious Church near Moscow.

“You should be rightfully proud of your fathers and your mothers, as the Russian people have always been proud of their warriors,” Putin told a group of children. He added, “We often call the Lord the Savior because he came to earth to save all people. It is the same with our warriors, because they are always, under the direction of the Lord, on a mission to defend the Fatherland and its people.”

He emphasized that Russia has long regarded its soldiers as fulfilling a holy mission, guided by the Lord. In a Christmas message issued by the Kremlin, Putin also lauded Christian organizations for their charitable work and their ongoing support for veterans.
