Trump wants apology from LA representatives due to demonstrations

(MENAFN) President Donald Trump has publicly demanded apologies from California Governor Gavin Newsom and Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass, blaming them for what he called a "disastrous" handling of recent violent protests in Los Angeles. In a series of posts on Truth Social Monday, Trump accused the demonstrators of being “paid insurrectionists” and criticized local officials for failing to maintain control.

“Governor Gavin Newscum and ‘Mayor’ Bass should apologize to the people of Los Angeles for the absolutely horrible job that they have done,” Trump wrote, adding, “These are not protesters, they are troublemakers and insurrectionists. Remember, NO MASKS!” In another post, he simply wrote: “Paid Insurrectionists!”

The unrest intensified over the weekend in Paramount, where protesters clashed with Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers outside a Home Depot. Officers deployed tear gas and less-lethal munitions after the confrontation escalated.

The White House has confirmed the deployment of 2,000 National Guard troops to Los Angeles County, citing repeated attacks on federal agents. Approximately 300 Guard members are currently active, and 500 Marines remain on standby.

On Sunday, demonstrators blocked parts of the 101 Freeway, waving Mexican flags and chanting “Viva la Raza.” Videos from the scene captured protesters throwing incendiary devices at mounted police, burning American flags, and pelting officers with concrete and bottles in downtown Los Angeles.

The FBI is now searching for a suspect involved in assaulting a federal officer and damaging federal property, offering a $50,000 reward for information leading to an arrest.

Governor Newsom has condemned Trump’s actions as unlawful, asserting that the federal deployment occurred without proper state consultation. He announced plans to take legal action and called for calm, urging demonstrators not to “give Trump what he wants.”

White House immigration adviser Tom Homan defended the federal response, pledging ongoing immigration enforcement operations in Los Angeles. He criticized state sanctuary policies and warned local officials against obstructing federal efforts, even suggesting they could face legal consequences.
