Trump Orders Evacuation of Staff From Middle East
His comments came prior to attending the opening performance of the acclaimed musical Les Misérables at the Kennedy Center.
While addressing the press, Trump confirmed the withdrawal of personnel but continued to emphasize his unyielding position regarding Iran's nuclear objectives.
"Well, they are being moved out because it could be a dangerous place. We'll see what happens. We've given notice to move out," he stated when questioned about the movement of U.S. personnel.
When asked whether efforts were being made to ease tensions in the region, Trump reaffirmed his stance on Iran’s nuclear capabilities.
"They can't have a nuclear weapon. Very simple. They can't have a nuclear weapon. We're not going to allow that," he insisted.
On the same day, the U.S. State Department approved the evacuation of noncritical staff from Iraq, following urgent evaluations of embassy safety across areas within potential range of Iranian influence, including the Middle East, Eastern Europe, and North Africa, as reported by a newspaper.
The newspaper also revealed that American intelligence agencies are increasingly alarmed about the possibility of Israeli attacks on Iranian nuclear sites without prior approval from Washington.
A State Department representative told a news agency that "President Trump is committed to keeping Americans safe, both at home and abroad," underscoring the administration's dedication to security amid the mounting crisis.
